There are over a quarter of a million people volunteering as school governors and trustees in the UK, undertaking this responsible yet rewarding role making our schools the best they can be. The diverse skills, experience and insight school governors bring are hugely valuable in supporting schools and shaping the life chances of young people.
Youth Engagement Schools Trust is a Multi Academy Trust based in Cheshire, specialising in helping vulnerable learners succeed in specialist settings. Fundamentally, the YES Trust’s ambition is to help as many vulnerable young people requiring specialist support within education as possible. The Trust is relentless in driving the development of successful, resilient, lifelong learners. We strive to make sure that all learners under our care experience an exceptional education, underpinning our unwavering view that every student can succeed.
The Trust currently runs an Alternative Provision Free School and an SEN Free School in Cheshire East, an SEN Free School in Shropshire, in addition to overseeing an Independent Primary AP, also in Cheshire East.
The Raise Academy will be recruiting for a ‘Local Support Board’ (LSB) in the next 12-18 months. This Board will act as the governing body for the school ensuring that key stakeholders are involved with the school at the highest level.

Who can become a Governor?
We encourage applications from people from all walks of life so that we can draw on a wide variety of skills and experience to support and develop the academy. At the foot of this form is a list of eligibility criteria, but equally important is your readiness to work as part of a team that understands the academy’s work and ability to think through new ideas and decide what is best for the academy. This will mean you are willing to:
- Attend meetings regularly
- Become involved and get to know the academy
- Help the local community and increase the learning opportunities of the pupils
- Read all paperwork circulated for meetings
- Attend events at the academy
- Respect confidentiality at all times
