SEN Information Report for parents and carers

At The Raise Academy, we are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all our students. We understand that each child is unique, and we aim to ensure that every learner is given the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.

Our school staff work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and external professionals to create personalised learning plans tailored to meet the individual needs of each student. Whether a child requires additional support with learning, social, emotional, or mental health challenges, we are dedicated to fostering an environment that promotes independence, confidence, and success.

We offer a wide range of strategies and interventions designed to support students with diverse needs, including:

  • Differentiated learning approaches
  • Sensory-friendly classrooms and resources
  • One-on-one and small group interventions
  • Small teaching groups

Our goal is to create a welcoming, nurturing atmosphere where every student can engage meaningfully with the curriculum, feel valued, and be part of the school community. Please explore this section to learn more about our SEN provision, policies, and the support available for your child.

Students will have a One-Page profile which are accessible to all members of staff. Teaching staff may provide additional work to support the students learning, and the class material will be differentiated to ensure that the needs of all children are met.   Some students may be involved with subject specific intervention work, which will be in small groups or on a 1:1 basis.

The progress of our students with SEND is monitored by Teachers, the SENCo, Senior Leadership Team.

We believe that every child deserves a curriculum tailored to their individual strengths, interests, and learning needs. Here are some of the ways we match the curriculum to your child’s needs:

All pupils at The Raise Academy have an EHCP with SEMH stated as their primary area of need. The EHCP outlines their specific needs, learning goals, and the support required, they are regularly reviewed and updated in collaboration with parents, teachers, and external professionals to ensure that your child’s learning is aligned with their development.

Our teachers use a variety of teaching strategies to deliver lessons in ways that are accessible to all learners. This includes:

  • Breaking down tasks into smaller, manageable steps.
  • Providing visual aids, scaffolding, and simplified instructions for complex concepts.
  • Offering multiple ways of learning—whether through hands-on activities, visual learning, or practical exercises—to accommodate different learning styles.
  • 1:1 or small group interventions for targeted learning support.
  • Assistance from trained staff members, including teaching assistants or SEN specialists who help to implement support strategies within lessons.
  • Our flexible approach means that we can ensure pupils have the best chance to succeed. We can provide sensory breaks or quiet spaces for children who need time to regulate emotions.

We work closely with parents, external professionals, and the students themselves to regularly review progress and adjust the curriculum as needed. This collaborative approach ensures that your child’s learning experience is constantly evolving to meet their changing needs.

Our goal is to create a balanced, engaging, and supportive curriculum that empowers every student to learn, grow, and thrive.

We believe that open communication between school and home is essential for supporting the progress of children. We strive to keep you well-informed about your child’s development and provide opportunities for regular discussions. Here’s how we ensure that you are involved and supported:

You will receive frequent updates on your child’s progress through half termly progress reports that outline academic achievements, social development. We will also carry out Annual EHCP reviews where we evaluate your child’s long-term progress and make any necessary adjustments to their support plan.

We hold regular Parents Evenings provide a dedicated time for you to discuss your child’s outcomes and ask question.

We use Class Dojo to keep you informed of day-to-day progress and any specific updates related to your child. Form Tutors will also email or call weekly to give a brief update or discuss any urgent matters.

Our pastoral care team works closely with students to ensure their wellbeing.  The first point of contact for your child will be their Form Tutor, our pastoral team also includes TAs, a Mental Health Counsellor and a pastoral support worker. We also have a trained Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) who provides targeted interventions for students struggling with emotional well-being. For students who need more in-depth emotional support, we can offer access to a school counsellor.

For students who may become overwhelmed or anxious, we provide sensory rooms and quiet spaces where they can take time to calm down and reset. These spaces are equipped with sensory-friendly resources, soft lighting, and calming activities that help students regulate their emotions.

We also work very closely with outside agencies/professionals; these include:

  • Education Welfare Service
  • Educational Psychologist who meets regularly with the school SENCO, parents and students
  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
  • Medical Needs Team
  • Speech and Language Therapy Team
  • Social Care
  • Sensory Service (hearing and vision impaired students)

Half termly data collection, from all teachers, showing the current level of attainment of all the students they teach. This means that teachers in each subject area can track the outcomes of students across the academic year and intervene if students experience difficulties.

In-class additional support is reviewed half-termly by the SEND Team. Adjustments to support are made if necessary.

Teaching and learning is observed by senior leaders and line managers as part of the school’s performance management system. Teaching assistants are also observed through learning walks by the SENCo.

When a student joins our school, they will complete baseline testing and they are also tested on their reading and spelling. This allows us to identify when students may need further support, intervention, or additional assessment to detect any underlying difficulties.

School trips are part of the school curriculum, and we aim for all students to be included on school trips. We will provide the necessary support to ensure that this is successful. A risk assessment is carried out prior to any off-site activity to ensure everyone’s health and safety will not be compromised. This may include advice from the SENCo where relevant.

The Raise Academy is a purpose-built schoolOur site can be accessed by wheelchair; we have wide corridors and a lift to the first floor. We have several disabled toilets and there is disabled parking at the front of the building.
